Midterm Project Reflection

Image
So far throughout this course, I have learned many things that will help me in my future career as a teacher.  We have discussed the Social-Interactive model of teaching, which looks at the following: - Positive interdependence - Individual Accountability - Group Processing - Social Skills In addition, we have discussed how to manage behavior in a classroom, and different lesson plan styles.  I addition to the traditional, lecture-like direct lesson plans, there is inquiry (or discovery) based lessons, and collaborative lessons.  In addition, because of the fieldwork we have been doing with Bishop Dunn, I have learned how to write and implement not only a lesson plan, but a whole unit plan.

Information Processing Model

The information processing model of teaching is widely inquiry-based learning.  It focuses on concept information, inquiry learning, and synectics.  With information processing models, lessons that are problem-based span several days, or even weeks.  There are four major phases in this model: 1. Presenting the question to the class.  2. Organizing the class for inquiry.  3. Assisting students with investigation.  4. Presenting results and findings.  A solid, problem-based inquiry lesson begins with the teacher assisting students in identifying the problem, and looking for real-life answers or solutions.  With this mode of teaching, it is important to organize students into collaborative groups for investigation.
